Am I eligible for life insurance?
If you are aged 18 to 85 and a UK resident, you could be eligible for life insurance cover.
There are some exceptions to this general rule of thumb. For example, most providers will accept customers from age 18, however, some people may be able to get life insurance from the age of 16 (subject to conditions). If you spend some of your time outside of the UK your residency status may be checked to ensure that you have an insurable interest in the UK and are eligible for the product. You will also be required to pay from a UK bank account. There are also options for those in the UK on certain visas, those who have recently emigrated, and refugees. Please speak to a Protect Line specialist for more information.
Your health and lifestyle will determine whether you are accepted by an insurer. It is possible to get life insurance with health conditions, including mental health conditions, and if you are a smoker. Life insurance policies are generally medically underwritten and so you will need to disclose this information.
You do not need to be employed to get life insurance, and you can be on government benefits, however it’s important that you are able to meet the financial obligations of the policy. Monthly premium payments should not put you or your family into financial difficulty.
