How do I know if I’ll be accepted?

To apply for standard life insurance with Protect Line you will need to be between the ages of 18-80 and a UK resident, who can speak and understand English to a good level. Unfortunately, Protect Line does not currently offer translation services.

Life insurance policies are priced and underwritten based on the answers you provide at the time of application, such as your age, height, weight, lifestyle and health. The acceptance and premium price are based on the perceived risk you are to the insurance company.

A life insurance provider is not obliged by law to offer you life insurance after learning of a health condition or lifestyle choice, so long as their decision is based on information that’s reasonable, reliable and relevant.

The Protect Line specialist you speak to will be able to inform you whether you have been accepted for a policy or not, usually on the application phone call. If the insurance company requires more information, such as a medical check with your GP or blood test, your policy will be pending subject to the results.

If you are not accepted by an insurance provider there may be other options, which your Protect Line specialist will explain to you. It might be worth applying to a different insurer or considering a non-medical underwritten policy. These are policies, usually only for those aged 50-80, which have guaranteed acceptance because you do not need to disclose your medical history. However, guaranteed policies will pay out a lot less than a medically underwritten policy.

All help centre articles are designed to help give generic information to UK consumers. Protect Line operates on a non-advised basis, so no help centre article should be considered as advice or an indication of the terms and conditions of your policy. Insurers also update their terms and conditions from time to time and while Protect Line endeavours to keep all information up to date, there is a chance the information on these pages may become outdated. All information is correct at the time of publication. To ensure you fully understand the terms and conditions of your policy please read all your documents and contact us for clarification if there is something you do not understand.
