You must keep up with your monthly payments otherwise your policy may lapse and cover will cease. If you lose your cover and wish to restart it at a later date you may be quoted a higher price.

Many insurers do have a grace period of 30 days or so, in case a payment is missed. This is mostly to prevent mistakenly cancelled direct debits, rather than to be relied upon as a payment break.
