Can I set up a life insurance policy for someone else?
We often get asked if people can take out life insurance in their parent’s name, or another close family member or friend. Unfortunately, it is not possible to take out life insurance on somebody else.
Protect Line requires customers speak to us on the phone, which is partly due to data protection and partly to prevent insurance fraud. We need to ensure the person we are selling life insurance to is the named applicant.
There are some instances where you can act on behalf of another person, such as when an applicant is unable to communicate with us directly due to a medical issue or disability, such as deaf or non-verbal customers. We can also speak to a representative if they have Power of Attorney or other legal powers to speak on someone else’s behalf. Documentation to support this would need to be seen by Protect Line before proceeding.
